PostSubject: Everett Falter   Everett Falter I_icon_minitimeFri Dec 21, 2018 12:30 am

PERSONAL INFO

Name: Everett Falter
Nickname: She insists that her friends call her "Big Sandwich". Nobody does.
Title: None
Birth Date: April 7
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Trainer Class: Trainer

LOOKS

Everett Falter FrTax3L

Height: 5'3"
Weight: 120 lbs.
Hair: Black
Eyes: Amber
Skin Tone: Tan
Style:
Her sense of fashion can be summed up in one word: "free". Everything that she wears and every clothing piece that she owns is something she never bought. She has no sense of color coordination and entirely focuses on wearing whatever happens to both be clean and be the first thing she happened to have grabbed. Unless it's scorching hot outside, she's almost always wearing her terribly bright ALOLA sweater that somehow still looks to be in decent condition despite how much wear its gone through. She's always complaining about how cold it is even while wearing the sweater. Her shoes, however, have clearly seen better days. They're sporting torn laces and small holes in some spots above the soles. She doesn't own sleepwear and just sleeps in whatever she was wearing during the day. The most consistent parts of her wardrobe are as follows:

  • Obnoxiously green ALOLA sweater. Given out free via the Alola Tourist Bureau to those traveling to colder regions. The sleeves are too long. Should not be machine washed. Is always machine washed.
  • Purple shoes, have a lot of wear and tear.
  • Three identical polo shirts that were part of a school uniform. The matching slacks are all missing??
  • A white T-Shirt with a piece of toast depicted on its center. Has a coffee stain on the shoulder and is probably the only shirt Everett has ever bought.
  • Variety of pants, some light some dark. All are either too long or too short. All of them are hand-me-downs from her friends. At her insistence.
  • Brown satchel. Shouldn't be big enough to hold all of her stuff, but somehow does anyway. Best not to question it.

Special Characteristics:

  • Hair is in a state of infinite bedhead (because she never brushes it).
  • She often looks younger than she actually is, though this could be due to her ill fitting attire.
  • Has a small tattoo of a palm tree on her left shoulder.

PERSONA

Personality:
Everett most defining feature is her aimless approach at life. She isn't driven by overarching life goals and instead just takes things day by day and most days the goal is to, well, do nothing. She's lazy, rarely applies herself, and just wants to have a good time. Effort is too much effort, and she always takes the path of least resistance even if it's a detriment to herself. She's easily distracted and her attention span isn't built for things like studying, reading, and research. Despite this, she's quite skilled at socializing and "finding dudes to hang with", though she's adept at telling people's boundaries at a glance and won't push any friendships. After all, that'd take effort. Bundled with this is a keen eye for social ques, which makes it difficult for others to manipulate her. She doesn't have any moral objection to lying.

She's easygoing to a fault and has little to no long-term planning. She's not afraid of confrontation nor does she spare others' feelings when asked for honest opinions, but she rarely puts any effort toward arguing against points that she disagrees with. If things get too heated, she'll speak her mind then drop the subject entirely. She doesn't hold grudges easily and usually forgets the things she's upset about in a matter of days. She's a huge mooch and would never turn down anything offered to her for free. One of the things she would put legitimate effort into is finding some way to get free things, free admission, or any discounts she can. Deep down, all she wants is for people to like her.

Despite her aimlessness and lack of foresight, when she has passion for something she'll put her whole heart into it. Among her rare passions is a fascination or astronomy and anything space related. She has an unhealthy fascination with the Mossdeep Space Center, and dreams about working there one day (despite having zero qualifications and also never having visited). Her brain is so filled with space facts that she finds a lot of trouble learning about things that don't interest her. Lecture environments are torture, she never retains book material, and she prefers learning through her own means at her own pace-- that is to say, if she's in a class she's most likely not paying attention or sleeping through it. In a group situation, she'll often push her own responsibilities onto others and lean more toward socializing rather than getting anything important done. She procrastinates any work she does end up with, and she has trouble taking responsibility for the detriments caused by her own lack of effort.

She'd rather focus on what makes her happy in the short term than what will benefit her in the long term. She's a bit of a hoarder and has a lot of trouble throwing old or useless things away. She has a bit of an inferiority complex due to her brother's success and micromanaging parents. She has strained feelings toward all of her immediate family and prefers not to talk to any of them. There's almost an unhealthy amount of confidence she has even when she has no idea what she's doing or what she's talking about. She doesn't have many mood swings and is a generally optimistic person, and as long as she has nothing important to do, she's happy.

Meyer-Briggs: ESFP

Likes: Free stuff, astronomy and space, hanging out with people, napping, making her own path in life.

Dislikes: Lecture environments, deadlines, snooty establishments, the cold, being told what to do.

Strengths:

  • TRUE PASSION - When she has a passion toward something, she's all-in. Even mentioning the subject will make her eyes light up and her mood skyrocket toward genuine joy.
  • EASYGOING - There's little that will get her down, and though she may disagree with some she won't let that ruin her mood or push that person to their limit. With a play-by-ear approach to most days, she's never stressful to be around.
  • SOCIALABLE - She has no trouble talking to and meeting others. While she may put off written letters, phone calls, or emails, she has no problems with an in-person setting or being the center of attention.

Weaknesses:

  • CHEAP - She'll go through great lengths if it means getting something for free. She'll hesitate at anything that has something like an entrance fee and won't hesitate to mooch off of others.
  • LOW-EFFORT - She doesn't put much effort into things and often pushes the hard work onto others. She doesn't apply herself and spends much of her day procrastinating.
  • INFERIORITY COMPLEX - She doesn't think she can accomplish much and her own lack of effort only amplifies this self-destructive feeling. Even when she does achieve something great, she's always gnawed by doubt that any of it mattered.

Motivations:

  • ESCAPE - She started her Pokemon journey to both distance herself from her family but also to not admit to them that she, uh, flunked out of her schooling.
  • ADVENTURE - She has no destination in mind, but surely she'll figure that out as she goes!
  • VALIDATION - She doesn't want to be what her parents want her to be, but she wants to know that she could be that, y'know? But not because of them. Because she did it without them.

Fears:

  • CONSEQUENCES - Her worst fear is the inevitable confrontation with her parents.
  • LONELINESS - Friends are everything when family can't be. If Everett didn't have anyone, she wouldn't know what to do with herself.
  • TIGHT SPACES - She's very claustrophobic and gets uncomfortable in very crowded places like concert spaces.

BACKGROUND

Birthplace: Hau'oli City, Alola

Defining Moments:

  • Drifted apart from her family and spent most of her childhood with various friends instead. Gained a fascination for space.
  • Dragged away from her easygoing life to fill the shoes of her brother after he gave up on becoming Champion.
  • Slept through trainer school, passed anyway. Received her trainer's license.
  • Sent to an Ace Trainer academy, never went to classes, promptly flunked.
  • Acquired her first Pokemon in order to be able to enter a battle competition for a free ferry ride to Kanto. Promptly forfeits her place in the competition.
  • Attacked by a rogue group of Pokemon but defended by her own, Everett realizes that maybe the whole trainer thing isn't as mind-numbing as she had always thought. And despite any hesitation, she'd need a stronger team so something like it never happened again.

History:
On the outskirts of Hau'oli City sat a larger than life house fenced off from the rest of the community. At its head was a man, Everett's father, originally from Hoenn. He had generous stocks in both TM manufacturing and the Devon Corporation. His no-mercy approach to business and lust for power has made him a very rich man. Everett's mother was just as ambitious of her father. An Alolan born into near poverty, she had to claw and fight her way to the top. The two met during one of her father's business trips, and both spent their lives trying to build an empire of their own. Any reach that could possibly make more money was something they wanted their hand in. Despite their efforts, the one thing they never had was a stake in the hearts of the people themselves. If you controlled someone that everyone looked up to, well, how easy would it be to sell anything they wanted? To influence decisions and publicity? Both knew this wasn't something they could possibly do themselves so they made the ultimate business decision: they had a son. And that son would one day be the Champion of Hoenn. From day 1 he was raised, taught, and grew with this one goal in mind.

When Everett was born, she never had a purpose like her brother had. By this time, he was two years old and already memorizing type matchups. He showed a keenness toward ground and fire types and all Everett had a keenness toward was sleeping. She was a quiet baby, and the nannies that raised her still mention how bubbly she was. There was a large duality toward how the two were raised: Everett was free and lacked any attention from her parents, her brother the opposite. Instead of bonding with one another and getting through their struggles, they grew to resent one another and never truly grew close. They lead two very different lives and served very different purposes.

At the time she was eight years old, her brother was sent off to an advanced trainer boarding school with a fast track to an Ace Trainer academy the minute he graduated. She had hoped that maybe now that he was out of the house her parents would finally give her the attention she craved, but they were out of the house much more than they were there and rarely did they ever find interest in spending time with her. The nannies tried there best, but Everett was missing something. Often times, she'd look out to the stars outside of her window each night and wonder if in such a large void, there was something more to the little place she called home. This inspired her to start to sneak off through a hole in their fence and find that something more. She befriended the children in the neighboring properties. Each day she grew bolder in her wandering, first being content with bothering the neighbors, then eventually wandering the streets of Hau'oli by herself. The friendships she made stayed with her over the years and filled the void that was missing. She grew to not need the attention of her folks, friends were better anyway. The older she got, the longer she would stay away from home and crash at other people's houses. Her parents never said a word about it and they lived with a mutual disinterest toward one another.

When she was 13, one of her father's business associates happened to be meeting him at their house, he had been quite a few hours early. Everett was as disinterested as always, until he mentioned his work at the Mossdeep Space Center. Thinking back to how she used to look up to the stars when she was younger, she asked a harmless question: "so what are the stars, anyway?" After he told her about the universe, how the stars made up what became the world and even what became people, and how these stars today are still affecting the energies of some Pokemon, she wanted to know more. And more. The two spent hours talking before her father arrived and quickly took over for real business matters. Everett was shooed away, but leaving with her was a newborn fascination for the sky around her. She wanted to go back and see the man again once the meeting was over with. By the time she tried, he was already gone.

When she was 16, Everett's life took a drastic turn. She had been couch surfing between friends' places for about a month and hadn't set foot at home in that time. Then, while she and some others had been bumming around the Hau'oli Shopping District, a fancy car with tinted windows pulled up to them. The window rolled down a rack and her mother's voice was heard: "Everett. Get in, now." Immensely confused, she bid goodbye to her friends and obeyed. Something like this had never happened before, and she had almost been convinced that her parents had forgotten about her completely. It turned out that her brother's efforts had taken him all the way to challenging the Hoenn Elite 4. However, no matter how many times he challenged them he could never defeat them. He sent them a letter stating that he was going to stop his challenge and find a different path in life. He had no plans to return to Alola. This was a huge problem, and the second child was clearly the solution. Everett would become a Champion instead and she was blindsided by this decision made without any input from her. Before she knew it, she was packed with a fancy uniform and sent off to the same academy her brother had attended, many years too late. She didn't get a chance to say goodbye to her companions or adjust to her new life. She learned that attention from her parents was the last thing she'd wanted.

She was placed in a special dorm for those that attended the school at a later date. Her roommate was about her same age, but showed no interest in being friends. Most everyone at the academy were the same: they were either too young or too focused on their studies to bother. Everett, in contrast, slept through most classes and never did any homework or fieldwork. To combat this, her parents set up private tutors and a strict schedule that she had to report all of her efforts to. Wherever she turned, there was someone breathing down her neck and making her get work done. She had trouble with the subject but would somehow skirt by through guessing on tests. Because she didn't yet have her own Pokemon, she was permitted to borrow the academy's but never did well in the practical applications. Through her parents overbearing actions and her lucky guesswork (as well as her parents' generous donations to the school), she somehow graduated and finally got her trainer's license. She was given the Summer to catch and train her first Pokemon before she'd be expected to attend the advanced program of the Ace Trainer Academy at Ula'ula Island. She did not, but found herself at the academy anyway.

The only thing she learned at the academy was that unlike the trainer school, Ace Trainees knew how to party. Because she was now 19, her parents had no say in her education and now they had to go through Everett to get any updates about her grades and effort. She skipped all of her classes was vastly unprepared considering she didn't even own a Pokemon or any items. She was promptly kicked out. She didn't tell her parents and every time they asked she'd respond with the usual "my team's growing and they're getting killer strong! My grades are great, I finally get it!". While she was pretending to be at school, she became a frequent visitor of the Hokulani Observatory (where she learned more about space) and constantly hung around with the thugs of Po Town (where she learned more about graffiti and knocking things over). Everything was going great until she got a dreaded phone call: in one week's time her parents would be visiting the academy to see just how far she'd progressed. In one week the gig was up, and she had no idea of how she'd get herself out of the hole she dug. Her scientist pals said she should fess up and work out a plan from there. Her hoodlum friends said she should just run from her problems. She liked the sound of the latter.

They got word of a battle cruise tournament arriving at the island the next day. The ship would depart from the island and take a trip to the neighboring Kanto region before doubling back. She'd be able to get off at Kanto and leave all of her problems behind in a move that'll surely not backfire in any way. Interested trainers would be able to board for free if entering the competition as long as they had a registered team and valid trainer's license. Everett, well, had one of those things. She just needed a Pokemon. She used on of the Observatory computers to search around Kraigslist for anything for free. She found a post listing for "dex fodder" within walking distance. She met with the poster and looked at each thing he had to offer before settling on a spry looking Inkay that seemed like it had never actually been out of its Pokeball after its initial capture. In Everett's words: "oh, that one's a squid. I think my brother loves fire types so a water type is perfect!" The seller was just happy to be rid of it and never corrected her.

Soon, she found herself saying goodbye to her friends on the island and boarding the ship to Kanto. She registered her team of one, but couldn't remember the species of her sole team member. Where it asked for it, she just wrote "Squiggles" because that was what she named it. She didn't know its level or gender, and to the bemusement of the staff member that happened to be filling out her entry sheet, she wasn't at-all interested in hearing the tournament rules. The minute her entry was processed, she went to her room on the ship, and slept through her scheduled first match-- essentially forfeiting her place in the tournament. Somewhere along the journey she dropped her phone into the ocean so that she wouldn't have to worry about any more calls. Just like she'd wanted, once the ship docked in Vermilion City, she got off to start a new life in Kanto. The people were a lot different than those in Alola, and she had the worst wake up call that night.

She never found anyone who would let her stay the night and she didn't know that Pokemon Centers were a resource for trainers just as much as Pokemon. Because of this, she wound up trying to sleep on a bench, cold, near the outskirts of town. She had finally dozed off when a sudden noise awoke her. She opened her eyes to a group of strange looking Meowth, three, surrounding her. It was clear they wanted something and unsure of what to do, she sent out her Inkay. The three cats proceeded to all launch Growl attacks to weaken any sort of defenses their new opponent may have, but to their surprise, Inkay's ability meant that every time they thought they had weakened him, he had only grown that much stronger. He lashed out at six times his own strength and Everett was frozen in both fascination and fear. Inkay had no commands and it was clear that he was struggling without the guidance of a trainer, and Everett had no idea how to even guide him. Still, he somehow managed to fight off the would-be attackers. She actually felt pride toward her little squid dude and she wasn't blind to the way its eyes lit up when she spoke that pride to him. It was one of the most exciting moments in Everett's life and something suddenly clicked. Maybe the whole trainer thing wasn't all that bad if it was on her own terms. And if no one from Kanto was going to welcome her with open arms then, well, what else was there to do but try it out? The stars were beautiful that night.
